For quite literally over a century, American boxers have dominated the heavyweight division. From the likes of Jack Johnson to Jack Dempsey to Gene Tunney to Joe Louis in the first half of the 20th century, then to the likes of Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier and Larry Holmes, and then to Mike Tyson, the 20th century was well and truly the century of the American heavyweight.

In a week where boxing was one of the most talked about sports in the media for all the wrong reasons, it clawed its reputation back on Saturday night with some thrilling action both in the UK and US.

A perfect night of boxing which, in this day and age, is something of a rarity. However, this Saturday night we get just that with a domestic 50/50 for British and Commonwealth honours in Barnsley, and then what is undoubtedly the card of the year across the pond in Los Angeles.
